How did Swiss Finance equip you with the skills to find a job in the industry of your choice?
I know it has been a few weeks since Swiss Finance has come to an end, but not a day goes by where I do not think of something that took place over my three weeks in Lugano. Since I have been back home in NYC, I have started my internship with Area International Trading Corp. where I am running around the floor non-stop as my company offers options on futures trading in crude oil, gasoline, heating oil, and natural gas. Although I am not an experienced phone clerk or broker just yet, I am greatly enjoying the learning experience that is supplementing everything you have taught me.
Notes from the participant's academic and career journal at Swiss Finance:
Today I learned what the different technical and soft skills are and how to differentiate between them, defining investment banking and the functions and duties of an investment banker, the meaning of securitization and underwriting, what a china wall is in investment banking, the different responsibilities and functions of the different groups within investment banks, the different skill sets required for each of the groups of the investment banks, the principle of time value of money, how to compute IRR and NPV, what capital budgeting is and how to compute the terminal value of a firm… and more and more and more… I think I want to take a 20 minute power nap before meeting up to discuss today’s lessons…
